Match Previews & Predictions for Premier League matches weekend March 16th to 17th:

Match Previews & Predictions for Premier League matches weekend March 16th to 17th:

Everton vs Manchester City – Saturday 12.45pm:- The Sky TV crew have picked a potential cracker here with top 4 chasing Everton taking on title chasing Manchester City and I believe this could be the game that signals the near end of Manchester City’s title hopes.

I say that because Everton have a tremendous record against Manchester City in the Premier League over recent seasons & having recorded several victories over them in that time then I’m convinced David Moyes will have his Everton players completely up for this match with the Everton players believing they can follow up last seasons famous home win against Manchester City.

I believe that this match will be just about the one that confirms Manchester City’s title bid is going to fall short as I believe Everton have every chance of getting a positive result here & while I know it’s going to be very, very tough for Everton to beat Manchester City, it’s also going to be very tough for Manchester City to get the better of Everton and ultimately the two teams may well end up cancelling each other out.

This will be seriously competitive, I’m also expecting a physical edge to the match & if there is to be a winner I expect it to be a tight margin say 1-0/2-1 but overall I just feel that Everton & Manchester City will fight each other right to the final whistle & a competitive, scoring draw looks a sensible, value call to me.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Aston Villa vs QPR – Saturday 3.00pm:- This is a truly huge, high pressure match as both Aston Villa & QPR desperately fight relegation with games & the opportunity to achieve valuable points running out.

Everybody connected to both Aston Villa & QPR will be feeling the same intense levels of tension & pressure ahead of this match and quite simply I believe this game & the outcome of it will come down to which set of players handles that pressure the best on the day, makes the least mistakes & makes the most of any chances that come their way.

The pressure factor means that in reality previous form probably won’t count for a lot & that makes it very much a coin flip type situation with regards to who might win this & indeed a draw was seriously tempting given that defeat has to be avoided but on balance I believe that home advantage might be the deciding factor & I’m backing Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa side to produce at home again & to edge what is probably the biggest game either side has face in a very long time.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- ASTON VILLA to win 2-1/3-1

Southampton vs Liverpool – Saturday 3.00pm:- A massive game for both sides here as Southampton are desperately looking for points to avoid relegation & Liverpool looking to finish the season strong so this should be a good, open game between two good footballing sides & one which hopefully produce a few goals along the way.

I’m hoping Southampton bounce back to the kind of form that they showed in beating Man City here 3-1 a few weeks ago & the kind of form that has seen them give great performances against most of the big sides because that good form convinced me to back Southampton on the last two occasions & they’ve disappointingly let me down with the 2-1 home defeat against QPR hard to take.

Admittedly they did enough in that QPR game to win it & more clinical finishing would have won them that game so their confidence levels shouldn’t have been hit too hard & I’m expecting them to be really up for this visit of Liverpool as they’ve performed well against all of the top sides this year.

As for Liverpool then Brendon Rodgers has stated he wants Liverpool to finish the season as strongly as they can & keep winning right up to the last match so I’m expecting a totally committed, positive performance from Liverpool in this one & given the goals they’ve been scoring in the last few moths they’ll believe they certainly do that here & win.

I think it’s a given that this will be a cracking game to watch with both Southampton & Liverpool committed to positive, attacking football, I genuinely believe any of the three results are entirely possible here and it’s hard to rule any of them out but ultimately I believe both will test each other for the full 90 minutes & on balance an entertaining, scoring draw looks the value call to me. Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Stoke City vs West Brom – Saturday 3.00pm:- How will Tony Pulis get the Stoke City players to respond to all the criticism that has come there way in recent weeks?

Now that might seem like a strange way to start a match preview but I really do believe that the outcome of this match evolves around whether or not Tony Pulis can get the Stoke City players to recapture their form & get the Stoke City fans back on side again after turning against him & the team in recent weeks.

I can’t quite believe I’m talking about the Stoke City fans turning on Tony Pulis & the Stoke players after 3 years of being amongst the most vocal fans around but a terrible run of results & poor performances really has made the Stoke City fans angry & that will only get worse until Stoke start showing more & winning matches again.

So I’m expecting Tony Pulis to really, really have drilled into the Stoke City players the importance of getting a good performance & result from this match and while it clearly won’t be easy to contend with a West Brom side who are well organised, have had an excellent season to date & recorded some excellent victories along the way, I do believe that Pulis can get the Stoke players firing again then they can definitely edge this.

I don’t expect it to be a great game of football, not too many games involving Stoke City are, but there will be plenty of endeavour, physical commitment & so based on that I believe it is worth backing Stoke City to get back to doing what they do best & take 3 vital points that everybody at Stoke City needs right now.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- STOKE CITY to win 2-0/2-1

Swansea City vs Arsenal – Saturday 3.00pm:- Thanks to the quirk of the cup draw pitching Swansea & Arsenal against each other this year then these two sides have already shared 3 good quality games of football and I’m certainly expecting more of the same here.

With regards to Swansea then they’ve had a season beyond their wildest dreams with a Capital One Cup Final victory already in the bag along with a series of great results in the Premier League and so no matter what happens to Swansea for the rest of the season, they’ve had a great season & the pressure is off enabling them to play their football & not worry about the results.

While Swansea can celebrate their season & enjoy what they’ve achieved with no pressure left on them, Arsenal come into this game in exactly the opposite situation being out of every cup competition, having suffered the humiliation of losing to League 2 & Championship opponents along the way, and more importantly facing a truly desperate fight to achieve their holy grail of 4th place & a Champions League place for next season.

So the pressure is firmly on Arsenal & they simply have to now show their best form, find the consistency they need & look to win every game possible so the big question is can Arsenal handle that & can Arsenal actually produce what’s required.

Usually I’d answer that with a firm no as I wouldn’t want to put my faith in Arsenal too often given their obvious failings & weaknesses but I am prepared to put my faith in Arsenal when they get opponents & a game style that is likely to suit them and with Swansea’s open, passing style then that really should enable Arsenal to show that they’ve got the better quality & make it pay.

Opposing Swansea on their own turf given what they’ve achieved & the way they play is admittedly a risky strategy & again putting faith in Arsenal to show their best is also risky but in this case I believe the risk is worth taking & I believe it’s worth backing Arsenal to show the class they have & back the likes of Wilshire, Arteta, Podolski, Giroud, Cazorla & Walcott to be too good for Swansea here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- ARSENAL to win 2-1/3-1

Manchester United vs Reading – Saturday 5.30pm:- Manchester United will win this & win it comfortably with the only task deciding exactly how comfortable it will be in terms of the scoreline.

I know that is instantly dismissive of a Reading who scored 3 against Manchester United in their earlier season league encounter & also gave United a test when losing 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Cup but this is all about Manchester United in the Premier League & this is all about Manchester United making their extra quality pay off to get the 3 points they need to push them ever closer to winning the league title.

Given how poor Reading have been in recent weeks & how defensively fragile they’ve been then it will be a major shock if Manchester United don’t win this with a degree of comfort, there is nothing to be gained in backing United just to win the match but there is value to be add in the correct score markets, backing United to win by a few clear  goals looks the way to.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- MANCHESTER UNITED to win 3-0/4-0

Sunderland vs Norwich City – Sunday 1.30pm:- Martin O’Neil, the Sunderland players & indeed everybody connected to Sunderland badly need a home win just to give everybody that boost they need & I think they’ll get it here against a Norwich City side struggling for any real consistent form & confidence.

Admittedly Sunderland have largely been disappointing this season & are not the most solid of teams to be putting huge faith in when punting but on this occasion I just simply believe that Sunderland won’t get a better chance than they will against a Norwich City side who had some incredible results but who largely look a Championship side at best in my opinion & in terms of relative player quality then I really don’t think it’s a fair contest as Sunderland simply have better players than Sunderland & especially in the midfield/attacking areas.

Fletcher, Graham, Larsson, Johnson, Gardener & the rejuvenated Sessegnon all give Sunderland plenty of quality & creativity where it matters and that group of players should get plenty of chances to show that here against a Norwich City side that will be committed & be organised but who lack quality and so a Sunderland home win has to be the call here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- SUNDERLAND to win 2-0/2-1

Tottenham vs Fulham – Sunday 3.00pm:- Another home London derby here for Tottenham coming straight after the thrilling North London derby with Arsenal & that magnificent win should see Tottenham flying with confidence now & I’m expecting Andre Villas-Boas’s men to force that home against Fulham in this.

There are added twists of interest to the plot with former Tottenham manager Martin Jol returning along with former Tottenham hero Dimitar Berbatov with them both certain to want to turn Tottenham over, indeed Berbatov at his brilliant, creative best is capable of that but the thing is I really don’t believe the rest of the Fulham team can properly compete with what Tottenham to offer & given how poor Fulham usually are away from home.

Tottenham have not always found it easy to win matches when strongly fancied to do so & clearly they are strongly fancied to beat Fulham here given what they did against Arsenal but that win was completely deserved & right now Tottenham look a very strong, well organised, confident side who look hard to beat & certainly look capable of beating whoever they come up against.

Berbatov on his very best form is capable of causing problems for Tottenham but even if he is on form then it will take the rest of the Fulham side to be on top form as well to stop Tottenham winning this & so a punt on Tottenham getting another huge win looks a solid option here with Bale, Defoe, Lennon, Parker, Dembele etc all likely to be too good for Fulham on the day.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- TOTTENHAM to win 2-0/2-1

Chelsea vs West Ham United – Sunday 4.00pm:- Another London derby match & another one that I think will end up being a largely one sided affair as I expect Chelsea to win this & win it with a few goals to spare.

Now I know that sounds to simplistic given that West Ham beat Chelsea 3-1 earlier in the season & Chelsea’s mixed form in the last few months but West Ham’s generally very poor away form & lack of away goals is what convinces me that Chelsea should control of this match & be able to let their extra quality show.

Mata, Lampard, Hazard, Torres, Oscar, Moses, Ba, Marin, Ramires for Chelsea against the likes of Reid, O’Brien, Taylor, Noble, Vaz Te & Carroll simply doesn’t look a fair match to me & I’m certainly expecting Chelsea to make home advantage pay in the derby match & win it with some style to avenge the defeat they suffered at the hands of West Ham earlier in the season.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- CHELSEA to win 3-0/3-1

Wigan vs Newcastle United – Sunday 4.00pm:-  Alan Pardew takes his Newcastle United side to Wigan for this vital relegation clash with both sides under huge pressure not to lose but also get the wins they need to survive so this should be an honest, open game & I’m expecting a fair few goals to go with it.

I’ve said many times before that I don’t really enjoy predicting Wigan matches as they are notoriously difficult to get right most of the time but thankfully I got Wigan spot on last week as I expected them to be badly exposed by Liverpool’s extra quality & they duly were as they went down 4-0 in a really open game, Wigan could have got the odd goal but Liverpool should have scored a few more as well.

So it was a great game to watch but a very bad game for anybody connected to Wigan as it showed their obvious weaknesses of defensive fragility & a general lack of quality that I am fully expecting Newcastle United to take advantage of in what really should be one of Newcastle United’s best remaining chances to get the vital win they need.

Alan Pardew’s team have far more quality than Wigan, they really should have control of all the key areas in this match & I believe it’s well worth backing the likes of Cisse, Cabaye, Sissoko, Goufran & the rest of Newcastle’s quality to expose Wigan and take 3 huge points here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- NEWCASTLE UNITED to win 3-0/3-1

Match previews & predictions for F.A. Cup 6th round & Premier League matches weekend Saturday 9th March & Sunday 10th March:

Match previews & predictions for F.A. Cup 6th round & Premier League matches weekend Saturday 9th March & Sunday 10th March:

F.A. Cup 6th Round previews:

Everton vs Wigan Saturday 12.45pm:- David Moyes guided Everton to the F.A. Cup semi finals last season & I’m certainly expecting him to do that again here with Everton having home advantage against Wigan & that benefit of being at home as well as having a much stronger squad with better individual talent makes EVERTON the bet to win through here & I think they’ll do with a degree of comfort in the end.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- EVERTON to win 3-0/3-1

Manchester City vs Barnsley – Saturday 5.30pm:- Barnsley have done magnificently well to be one of 3 Championship sides fighting for a place in the F.A. Cup semi finals & what an incredible dream that would be if they could pull it off with a win over Man City but in all honesty & reality I can’t see how that will possibly happen and anything other than a comfortable MANCHESTER CITY win will be a big, big shock.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:-  MANCHESTER CITY to win 3-0/4-0

Millwall vs Blackburn Rovers – Sunday 2.00pm:- All Championship battle for punters to solve here & just like 95% of Championship games this looks incredibly tough & difficult to call with confidence as I don’t think there is too much to split Millwall & Blackburn here.

Millwall have had a fantastic cup run so far, are certainly capable of beating anybody on their day as they showed by beating Villa on home soil & indeed home advantage makes them very dangerous here.

With regards to Blackburn Rovers then I’ve been greatly impressed by Michael Appleton since he took over as manager & he’s made Blackburn more organised, more solid & in Jordan Rhodes they’ve got a striker fit for the Premier League and he might just be the difference here.   Millwall have to be favourites with home advantage but this is essentially a coin flip as it’s so tight to call & in the end my coin just landed down on the side of BLACKBURN ROVERS winning this with Jordan Rhodes fancied to edge it for them.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:-  BLACKBURN ROVERS to win 2-0/2-1

Manchester United vs Chelsea – Sunday 4.30pm:- This is unquestionably the tie of the Quarter Finals & probably the tie of the entire competition so far with Chelsea’s multi-talented squad set the daunting task of trying get past Manchester United at Old Trafford and I must say I’ve got to favour Manchester United to win this one.

It won’t be easy of course for Manchester United as Chelsea have the individual quality that can hurt any side on their day but taking on Manchester United at Old Trafford is one of the toughest tasks any side can face and to get the better of Manchester United & win there then you’ve got to be completely together as a team & be able to produce your best, most competitive football and right now I just don’t see Chelsea doing that.

Team news is always a big factor in these games & it’s not easy to predict how both teams will line-up given their recent heavy schedules & that will especially be a big factor for Chelsea with this game coming only 3  days after playing away in Romania while I’m expecting Sir Alex Ferguson to play his strongest side possible in this.

Manchester United have had the edge over Chelsea in recent seasons & I believe with Sir Alex Ferguson saying several times that it is time Manchester United won the F.A. Cup again then I’m really expecting Manchester United to be as strong as they can team-wise, be totally committed to getting the win here & I believe backing MANCHESTER UNITED to win this has to be the call here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- MANCHESTER UNITED to win 2-0/2-1

Premier League match previews:

Norwich City vs Southampton – Saturday 3.00pm:- Both Norwich City & Southampton remain haunted by the prospect of relegation & both have to bounce back after disappointing defeats last weekend so I’m expecting a good, open game here as both will be looking to get a vital win.

Norwich City do currently have a good points cushion above the last relegation spot but they still definitely need points & wins to ensure survival for another year & they’ve got to look at getting those points at home as their away form is poor.

Norwich do command respect at home having beaten Arsenal, Everton & Manchester United on home soil and no doubt Chris Hughton will target this game with real purpose to make it a tough test for Southampton but my real fear for Norwich City is they really don’t look like scoring too many & I think they’ll have to get a few here to get a result.

I was all over Southampton last weekend at home to QPR as I believed they would be far too good & too strong in an attacking sense for QPR, obviously the result went wrong & Southampton disappointingly lost but I saw enough in that game to tell me Southampton can come into this game & get a result, in fact I think they’ve got more than enough to win it.

Southampton did have large chunks of the match against QPR & did create plenty of chances forcing several excellent saves to be made & despite that loss I believe they’ll still be confident & believe they can win this match.

Regarding the odds for the match then I’m not at all interested in prices for a Norwich City win, a score draw is tempting and would not be at all surprising but I think the 15/8 on offer for Southampton is a shade more tempting & I think Southampton are worth a punt to bounce back with a vital win.
Outright Match Result & Correct score options:-  SOUTHAMPTON to win 2-1/3-1

QPR vs Sunderland – Saturday 3.00pm:- Another huge, relegation tilted match here with QPR knowing that only wins are any good now & Sunderland knowing they need a few more just to secure themselves so this should be a good, competitive contest and indeed a hard one to call.

Begrudgingly I’ll praise QPR for winning at Southampton last weekend, that was a massively important win & probably kept alive their faint hopes of survival, and I still say they are faint hopes because I don’t believe that one result will be enough to get them going despite the general belief QPR are certain to pick up points in the coming weeks.

For Sunderland then they’ll be happy they got a positive result against Fulham after being 2-0 down at home & although being 2-0 down was massively disappointing for them, to bounce back & earn the draw showed they’ve got real spirit & belief and they should be in the mood to take that to QPR.

Looking at who might win this match then I’d rather be on Sunderland at 15/8 than QPR at 5/4, either side getting a tight win would not surprise me but ultimately I believe this will be really competitive, physically intense and I believe that the value lies in it being an open, scoring draw which will suit Sunderland far better than it will QPR.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Reading vs Aston Villa – Saturday 3.00pm:- This is a truly huge match, most probably a season defining match for both Reading & Villa and it’s hard to imagine how much pressure everybody connected to both clubs must be feeling coming into it.

Both Reading & Aston Villa are currently in the bottom 3, it’s longs odds on that one of them will get relegated & indeed there has to be a fair chance both will get relegated and so the only way they can prevent that is to start winning matches & especially matches against their rivals.

Now Reading could not be coming into such a huge game in worse form & I really don’t know how Brian McDermott will be able to keep getting his players up for matches after such pathetic results like losing 3-0 at home to Wigan & then getting comfortably beaten 3-1 by Everton.

Confidence levels must surely be pretty low at Reading right now & to be honest they’ve started to look a Championship side in waiting as they are desperately struggling defensively, just don’t look like scoring now either & based on that there is no way I could recommend supporting them to get a result.

So for me this match is all about what Aston Villa do & I do believe that as long as they show the extra attacking quality they’ve got compared to Reading then I really do believe Aston Villa can take the points here.

Of course putting faith in an Aston Villa team who are struggling as badly as Reading is not standard practice & not something I’d too often in a season but I just think in the case of this match it’s all about what happens on the day & if Aston Villa play to their best then they’ve got a very good chance of winning.

Benteke, Nzogbia, Weimann, Agbonlohar should have too much for a Reading defence that looks completely out of place in the Premier League and as long as Aston Villa avoid the defensive mistakes that have haunted them then I think it’s worth risking a punt on Villa winning this & getting a hugely important win that just might save them in the end.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- ASTON VILLA to win 2-1/3-1

West Brom vs Swansea – Saturday 3.00pm:- West Brom have been fantastically strong at home under the charge of Steve Clarke & I do believe they can emphasise that strength again here in what should be a decent game against Capital One cup winners Swansea.

Michael Laudrup’s men do command great respect given what they’ve achieved & the way they’ve played this year, indeed 2/1 for a Swansea win isn’t a bad price at all but I said I’ve got a feeling that Swansea will coast in certain games & I think this might be one of them.

Anyway, 5/4 for West Brom to win at home looks big to me as they’ve won 8 of their 14 home games including wins over Chelsea & Liverpool so they’ll be confident and believe they can edge past a Swansea side that has only scored 12 away league goals this season & when you consider 5 of those were on the opening day then Swansea have only scored 7 in the other 13 away matches.

So I definitely believe it is well worth backing WEST BROM to enjoy more success at home & a solid WEST BROM win looks the call here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- WEST BROM WIN 2-0/2-1

Newcastle United vs Stoke City – Sunday 3.00pm:- Well I’m not going to mess about here & I’ll say now that I believe NEWCASTLE UNITED at home to Stoke looks a clear call to me as I’ve completely lost faith in Stoke after their terrible run of results & performances.

Now I know Newcastle have suffered a few defeats in recent times & are by no means safe from relegation yet but they really do look to have far more quality than a Stoke City side who look devoid of ideas & any creativity right now and I believe the Geordie roar can inspire Alan Pardew’s men to another win here.

Cabaye, Cisse, Goufran, Sissoko, Gutierrez, Tiote all look superior to what Stoke City can provide in midfield & up front and while Stoke City will no doubt look to try for a 0-0 or a 1-0 win, I don’t believe they are capable of doing that at the moment and I think Newcastle United can get the goals to win this, 10/11 certainly looks a good price for that to happen.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- NEWCASTLE UNITED to win 3-0/3-1

Liverpool vs Tottenham – Sunday 4.00pm:- Tottenham held centre stage last Sunday earning that massive 2-1 win in the North London derby against Arsenal & they’ve got top billing again here with this admittedly tough looking trip to Anfield for a game that looks very, very tough to call with confidence.

Liverpool have certainly improved greatly in the last few months & now look like a much better organised, much more confident & fluent side who actually believe they can score goals & get results and quite clearly this will be a tough test for Tottenham, probably a fair bit tougher than it was playing Arsenal last weekend.

That said I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush to get the 10/11 about a Liverpool win as they’ve failed quite a few times this year when very short prices to win & they’ve got a very poor record against the better sides, yes they’ve had recent draws with Arsenal & Man City but they haven’t won any of those big contests & I just don’t believe 10/11 is the right price to backing them to win here.

While the 10/11 for a Liverpool win looks a shade too short, I have to say that the 5/2 for a Tottenham win does look overly big & if I had to select a team to win this match then Tottenham would be the clear call at the prices given their current form & sky high confidence levels, they’ll certainly believe they can get a result at Liverpool & will have no fear about going there.

Overall though I have to say that I envisage this game being seriously competitive, entertaining to watch but also highly likely to be tense with two very tactically aware managers & of course Suarez vs Bale & I just feel that Liverpool & Tottenham may well end up cancelling each other out in this one & so a competitive, scoring draw looks the value call to me and probably one both teams will be happy enough with come the final whistle.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Predictions for F.A. Cup 5th Round, Championship, League 1 & League 2 matches from Tuesday 26th February to Wednesday 27th February

Predictions for F.A. Cup 5th Round, Championship, League 1 & League 2 matches from Tuesday 26th February to Wednesday 27th February

At this time of the season the football action is relentless with league & cup action seemingly on a daily basis and that’s certainly the case again this week with fascinating looking action set to take place in the F.A. Cup, Championship, League 1 & League 2.

I’ve had a good look at the midweek fixtures lists &  here are my predictions on how I see the games going & hopefully you find them useful in some way if you are thinking of a potential punt on the football:

F.A. Cup 5th Round predictions:

EVERTON to beat Oldham 3-0/3-1
CHELSEA to beat Middlesbrough 2-1/3-1

Everton were absolutely gutted to concede a 95th minute equaliser against Oldham which forced this replay that they certainly didn’t want but I’m expecting David Moyes men to make no mistake here & do a thoroughly professional job to win through with a degree of comfort on home soil.

Chelsea & Rafa Benitez will not find it easy up at Middlesbrough as I’m sure their players & the local fans will be up for their biggest game for some time but ultimately I’m expecting Chelsea’s superior quality to have the edge and earn themselves a quarter final tie away at Manchester United.

Championship predictions:

LEICESTER CITY to beat Blackburn 2-0/2-1
BOLTON to beat Peterborough 2-0/2-1
BURNLEY to beat Huddersfield 2-0/2-1

Three very important Championship games in prospect here with all 6 teams having very strong motivations to fight hard & win the points so caution when punting has to be the first message.

That said I do believe that all three home sides LEICESTER CITY, BOLTON & BURNLEY are well worth supporting to make the most of home advantage in what will be competitive games & take the points.

League 1 predictions:

BOURNEMOUTH to beat Coventry 2-0/2-1
CARLISLE to beat Walsall 2-0/2-1
COLCHESTER vs YEOVIL DRAW 1-1/2-2
CRAWLEY vs BRENTFORD DRAW 1-1/2-2
CREWE to beat Hartlepool 2-0/2-1
MK DONS to beat Portsmouth 2-1/3-1
PRESTON vs OLDHAM DRAW 1-1/2-2
SCUNTHORPE to beat Stevenage 2-0/2-1
SHEFFIELD UNITED to beat Leyton Orient 2-0/2-1
SHREWSBURY vs DONCASTER DRAW 1-1/2-2
SWINDON to beat Bury 3-0/3-1
TRANMERE to beat Notts County 2-0/2-1

I have to say it looks set to be a very interesting night in League 1 with some really interesting looking matches and with everything to play for.

The headline fixture in League 1 looks likely to be SHEFFIELD UNITED at home to Leyton Orient and I think Danny Wilson’s men are worth a punt to get another vital win in their push for promotion although Leyton Orient will not make it easy for them.

SWINDON will be rated as many punters banker for the night at home to Bury & I have to agree with that, it will be a big shock if Swindon don’t win & win comfortably.

I also fancy  BOURNEMOUTH, TRANMERE & CREWE to get important wins on the boards as well.

League 2 predictions:

WIMBLEDON vs PLYMOUTH DRAW 1-1/2-2
BURTON vs MORECAMBE DRAW 1-1/2-2
CHESTERFIELD to beat Aldershot 2-0/2-1
FLEETWOOD vs CHELTENHAM DRAW 1-1/2-2
GILLINGHAM to beat Oxford 2-0/2-1
PLYMOUTH vs OXFORD DRAW 1-1/2-2
PORT VALE to beat Exeter 2-0/3-0
NORTHAMPTON vs BRILSTOL ROVERS DRAW 1-1/2-2
ROTHERHAM UNITED to beat York City 2-1/3-1
TORQUAY to beat Wycombe 2-0/2-1
SOUTHEND to beat Barnet 2-0/2-1
BRADFORD to beat Dagenham 2-0/2-1

Judged on form & the league table in Division 2 then this fixture lists does look home friendly with the bigger, better teams at home & I’m expecting the likes of PORT VALE, GILLINGHAM, ROTHERHAM, TORQUAY & CHESTERFIELD to get home wins.

The other matches look seriously competitive to me & very tight to call with scoring draws very tempting options at value odds

F.A. Cup 4th Round Match Previews & Predictions

F.A. Cup 4th Round Match Previews & Predictions

The magic that is F.A. Cup 3rd round weekend helped to produce some fantastic, enjoyable matches with great goals & great drama and the results from those ties have helped to produce what looks a fascinating set of F.A. Cup 4th round fixtures for us all to enjoy again.

After the 3rd round produced a whole stack of replays, the final 32 teams for the 4th round are now confirmed I’ve had a good look at what looks set to be a fascinating, exciting & hopefully entertaining set of 4th round ties.

Here are my own predictions for those games for you to look at & consider if you are thinking of maybe have a punt on the action:

Millwall vs Aston Villa – Friday 7.45pm:- Looking at the market for this one, the bookies cannot split Millwall & Aston Villa with both priced around the 7/5 mark to win and I have to say that I can’t have enough confidence side either right now & I can’t split them either.

On that basis alone the draw immediately has most appeal & as that’s the biggest priced option on offer, I have to say that it’s also the most tempting because I’m expecting Millwall to be really up for this knowing they can give Aston Villa problems having seen them struggle all season including against League 2 opposition.

For Aston Villa this will be another huge test of their character in a season when they’ve generally struggled & while it means another game, I’m sure Paul Lambert will be happy enough to get away with the draw here if it comes to that.

Millwall have home advantage & the motivation of causing a shock, Aston Villa have the better players but have been struggling so on balance an open, competitive scoring draw looks a likely scenario & one well worth backing at value odds.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Stoke City vs Manchester City – Saturday 12.45pm:- I usually back Stoke City at home against the big teams & had this game been played a month a go I would have definitely been going with a home win for Stoke City here but given their overall disappointing form & defensive weakness in recent weeks I can’t do that & especially against a strong, confident & in form Man City side.

Of course this is a cup tie, it’s a one off & the Britannia Stadium will be bouncing as it always is for the really big matches but Stoke City conceded 3 at home to Southampton, 4 at home to Chelsea & 3 away to Swansea in recent matches and that’s got to have had a huge impact on team confidence so I just can’t see how they’ll stop Man City in their current winning form given the quality City have.

Now it will not be easy for Manchester City because Tony Pulis will have Stoke City pumped up to respond after recent failings & in time they will get back to their strong, organised best but I do think this is a good time to be playing Stoke and I believe it’s worth backing Roberto Mancini’s team to get a big win here.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- MAN CITY to win 2-0/2-1

Bolton vs Everton – Saturday 3.00pm:- This has got the look of being a classic F.A. Cup tie with Championship side Bolton at home to in form Everton who are chasing Champions League place & cup glory so this should be a decent, open game & I can see a few goals going in as well.

Bolton undoubtedly caused one of the big shocks in round 3 by winning comfortably away at in form Sunderland so Bolton will be confident going into this match & David Moyes will know Everton will have to be fully up for this to avoid being the victims of another shock here.

Of course the truth is Everton under David Moyes are always up for every match & so while Bolton will match Everton for physical effort & commitment, it should come down individual & collective player quality on the day and clearly Everton have a huge advantage in that respect & I’m expecting Everton to come out on top here although Bolton will test them.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- EVERTON to win 2-1/3-1

Brighton vs Arsenal – Saturday 3.00pm:- I put my tipping & punting faith in Brighton by backing them to beat Newcastle in the last round & they certainly did everybody proud by producing a great performance to beat Newcastle easily & no doubt Gus Poyet’s team will be up for the visit or Arsenal here & Arsene Wenger will certainly not be looking forward to this.

I don’t think anybody connected to Arsenal, not even the most hardened supporter even can have too much faith or confidence in Arsenal given their poor recent displays and of course those memories of being knocked out by League 2 side Bradford will still be haunting them now so Brighton away must give them real concern.

That said Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal players & indeed the Arsenal fans will know that Brighton are a team that look to play good, positive football and that should enable Arsenal to show what they can do & clearly if they do show their best then that should be too much for Brighton here.

Gus Poyet’s Brighton team will be completely up for this & will look to take the game to Arsenal so they’ve obviously got a chance at home & certainly are capable of scoring against this Arsenal defence but overall Arsenal have far more attacking, creative quality and that should be enough to see them through a game that may well have a few goals as well.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- ARSENAL to win 2-1/3-1

Derby County vs Blackburn Rovers – Saturday 3.00pm:- I’ll start by saying I really do expect Derby County to get a positive result from this fixture against Blackburn as their form has been excellent this season & they will be confident of doing so again.

So the question here is will Derby County actually have enough to justify the bookies quotes of 11/10 & win this all Championship tie against a struggling Blackburn side or will Blackburn Rovers under new manager Michael Appleton have enough to get something from the game.

For a lot of punters & pundits the 11/10 for a Derby win will be very tempting as Derby have only lost 2 of their 14 home league games & won 5-0 here in the last round but I’ve got a sense that this young Derby side struggle when they are expected to win & I believe Blackburn may well have enough to get something here.

I’m expecting new Blackburn Rovers manager Michael Appleton to take this cup tie very, very seriously as he is already under huge pressure to get results so I’m expecting a full strength Blackburn side so that means plenty of quality & in Jordan Rhodes Blackburn Rovers have a striker who could win any match against any side.

I think this will be a really good, open & competitive cup tie, Derby are tempting at home but equally I believe Blackburn Rovers are worth backing to get something here & with the draw the biggest price then it’s a bet well worth taking
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Huddersfield Town vs Leicester City – Saturday 3.00pm:- Another all Championship tie here & ordinarily that would make it a tough game for punters to solve but in all honesty it doesn’t look likely to be too much of a contest given the contrasting form of Huddersfield & Leicester City.

Leicester City come into this game in great confident, winning form that has taken them to 2nd place in the Championship & indeed they sit 21 points and 16 places above struggling Huddersfield Town in the league table.

Leicester City also come into this game having won 4 & drawn 1 of their last 6 league matches and also knowing they hit Huddersfield for 6 just a few weeks ago and confidence amongst the Leicester City squad will be as high as it could possibly be coming into this match.

The one positive for Huddersfield is that they have drawn 4 of their last 6 league matches & they’ll hope home advantage gives them a chance but assuming Nigel Pearson takes this game seriously & selects a strong side then I’m expecting Leicester City to be far too strong & they look a solid bet to win.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- LEICESTER CITY to win 2-0/2-1

Hull City vs Barnsley – Saturday 3.00pm:- Surely the bookies have made a mistake here by offering 8/13 for 3rd place Hull City to beat 2nd bottom Barnsley in what is yet another all Championship 4th round tie.

That 8/13 for a Hull City win looks absolutely massive when you consider Hull City have 25 more points than Barnsley & have a goal difference of +8 compared to Barnsley’s -15.

Of course there is a danger that managers will use the cup ties to change the team & rest their better, more important players but surely Steve Bruce won’t do that given this is a home tie & a chance to get Hull City into the 5th round of a major competition and that would only be a positive for Hull City.

So again assuming Hull City are at full strength here I really can only see a comfortable home win & I think this is one of those occasions when 8/13 looks absolutely massive.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- HULL CITY to win 3-0/3-1

Macclesfield vs Wigan – Saturday 3.00pm:- Macclesfield had their glory in the last round by scoring 2 late, dramatic goals to see off Cardiff City at home & they’ll be dreaming of more cup glory having this home tie against struggling Wigan.

Macclesfield will certainly not be phased by having Premier League opposition coming to town & in Wigan they will know they are facing a team struggling for form, confidence & a Wigan side conceding goals so there is no doubt Macclesfield have a chance of a result here.

I certainly can’t entertain any thoughts of backing Wigan to win this at 1/2, yes Wigan have far more quality & if it was just about player quality then they would win but it’s not that simple and I can’t have any faith in this Wigan side at the moment.

That said I don’t believe the 9/2 for Macclesfield to win is big enough either and so that leaves the draw which is attractively priced around 3/1 & for me that looks decent value, Macclesfield will be delighted with a draw, Wigan will be happy to go back to the DW for the replay & I’ll be more than happy to collect the 3/1.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- DRAW 1-1/2-2

Manchester United vs Fulham – Saturday 3.00pm:- I’ll cut straight to the point here & say if Manchester United do not win this comfortably & score a few in the process then it will be a massive shock.

I say that because Fulham have been quite pathetic for the past few months & if they’d not had that excellent 2-1 win at West Brom a few weeks ago then they really would be looking at quite scary run of form that looks nothing short of a side going towards relegation.

Now I don’t believe Fulham will be relegated come the end of the season but I do believe they will go close if they continue to be as bad as they’ve been in recent weeks & I just don’t see how this Fulham side in their current form can be expected to get anything other than perhaps a token goal from this tie.

Manchester United will make changes to their side with the likes of Van Persie, Carrick, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra & a few others likely to be left out but that still means the likes of Nani, Valencia, Hernandez, Giggs, Scholes, Buttner, Anderson will come in & that’s got to be a scary prospect for this Fulham side.

The one hope Fulham have in this is if Berbatov decides to turn it on against his former club as he is capable of giving any team a problem on his day but he’s not done it lately & in all honesty I just don’t see how Fulham will stop Manchester United winning this comfortably.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- MANCHESTER UNITED to win 3-0/3-1

Middlesbrough vs Aldershot – Saturday 3.00pm:- This could be a good cup year for Middlesbrough as the draw as most certainly been kind to them with a non-league side at home in the last round & now League 2 Aldershot come to the Riverside for this 4th round tie.

Of course I’m not totally dismissing an Aldershot side who deserve praise for the way they beat a good Rotherham side in the last round but Middlesbrough away has to be seen a frightening footballing prospect for them & it will be a huge shock if Middlesbrough don’t win this well.

Tony Mowbray might be tempted to rest key players again here but still he should have more than enough to see off Aldershot & a comfortable Middlesbrough win with a few goals.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- MIDDLESBROUGH to win 3-0/3-1

Norwich City vs Luton – Saturday 3.00pm:- Premier League side at home to a Non League side doesn’t look to difficult to work out how this one should go & the 1/4 for a Norwich City highlights that perfectly.

Luton deserve great praise for the way they beat Championship side Wolves in the last round & they’ll come to Carrow Road and have a go but this is a great opportunity for Norwich City to get a much needed confidence boosting win & they should do that with ease really.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- NORWICH CITY to win 3-0/3-1

QPR vs MK Dons – Saturday 3.00pm:- There is no doubting that a 4th Round F.A. Cup tie means very little to QPR right now compared to their precarious league position but I’m sure Harry Redknapp will want to win here & keep the home fans happy & it will be a big surprise if he doesn’t.

That said MK Dons deserve huge respect because they are a very well organised side that certainly know how to play good, positive football and they will view this game as a chance to show they can compete a higher level than League 1.

So MK Dons will make this a test & I don’t think it will be easy for QPR but that said the 4/7 for a QPR win looks fair enough & it looks one to stick in the multiples this weekend.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- QPR to win 2-0/2-1

Reading vs Sheffield United – Saturday 3.00pm:- Seemingly all games involving Reading look certain to be open, entertaining matches and I’m certainly expecting this cup tie against League 1 Sheffield United to be no different.

Now given that Reading are fighting relegation & Sheffield United are trying to get promoted then both managers may well rest players here but both managers are extremely proud people who love to see their teams competing and that should make for a good contest whoever is selected.

I think Sheffield United will have a go & they have a chance against Reading because Reading give every side chances to score goals but equally Reading certainly know how to create & score goals themselves and the 4/7 for a home win surely has to be the call here in what should be a decent cup tie.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- READING to win 2-1/3-1

Brentford vs Chelsea – Sunday 2.00pm:- Chelsea will win this & win with comfort.

Clearly that sounds too dismissive & disrespectful to a Brentford side who will be at home & who are enjoying an excellent season in League 1 but if Chelsea don’t win this well & score a few goals in the process then it would have to be deemed to be a shock.

Whoever out of the likes of Torres, Ba, Mata, Hazard, Lampard, Oscar, Marin, Ramirez should have way too much attacking & creative quality for Brentford’s midfield & defence and so while there will be plenty of endeavour & commitment from the home side, Chelsea should win this with ease & nobody can argue with the 2/7 on offer, it’s short but should happen.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- CHELSEA to win 3-0/4-0

Leeds United vs Tottenham – Sunday 4.00pm:- Without doubt this looks the absolute pick of the ties for Round 4 with Leeds United at home to high flying Totteham and it should provide plenty to enjoy.

I’m expecting Elland Road to be absolutely packed & I’m also expecting Neil Warnock to have the Leeds players completely & utterly pumped up for this as he loves nothing more than getting one over the big teams but I’ve got a feeling that in Tottenham they’ll face too tough a test.

Andre Villas-Boas brings his confident, in form Tottenham side to Elland Road off the back of an excellent home draw against Manchester United in which they dominated United for large parts of the game & may well have won on another day so Tottenham will not fear going to Leeds.

In fact I’m expecting Tottenham to be greatly looking forward to this tie as Tottenham could well be a major force in the FA Cup this year & the likes of Bale, Defoe, Dempsey, Lennon, Parker, Sigurdsson, Walker & Dembele should have too much class & quality for Leeds in this.

Leeds will set out to be really competitive & make it tough for Tottenham but I’m expecting Tottenham to be able to handle that & then make their extra quality pay and the 4/5 on offer for a Tottenham win looks pretty solid to me.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- TOTTENHAM to win 2-0/2-1

Oldham vs Liverpool – Sunday 6.00pm:- Liverpool had a major scare at Mansfield in the last round & where pretty lucky to get through that without needing a replay but I can’t see that happening again here & they should dismiss Oldham fairly easily.

Oldham are at home, their fans & players will be up for this & in theory it looks like a classic cup tie that could produce a shock if everything went Oldham’s way but that would have to include Liverpool not playing well & not playing with confidence and quite simply Liverpool look too good & too confident for Oldham right now.

A fantastic 2nd half performance by Liverpool against Manchester United was they followed by an easy 5-0 home win against Norwich City and quite simply whoever Brendan Rodgers picks for Liverpool in this match should be way too good for Oldham & a comfortable Liverpool win looks the only way to go.
Outright Match Result & Correct Score options:- LIVERPOOL to win 3-0/4-0
