Manchester City v Stoke–FA Cup Final

I would not ordinarily submit details for a ‘neutral ground’ event, but for those of you that follow trends, these two two teams have played out four consecutive 1-1 draws (90 minutes play) when contesting their last four games home and away.

The only winner to emerge in these four games were Stoke who beat Manchester City 3-1 after extra time in an FA Cup tie in February 2010.

F.A. Cup semi final stats

Manchester United v Manchester City (live on ITV–5.15 Saturday)

United have won the last four meetings between the teams in the competition, boasting a goal difference of 10-3 in the process.

Sir Alex Ferguson has lost just one of the ten semi final matches his teams have contested.

Crumb of comfort for City?

The two teams last met at the semi final stage back in 1926 when City won 3-0, though yes, that was eighty five years ago!

Bolton v Stoke (live on ESPN–4.00 Sunday)

Bolton have won three of the five F.A. Cup matches between these two teams with Stoke boasting just one success (goal difference: 9-3).

The last eight (league) games between Bolton and Stoke have produced the following results:

Bolton: 4 (equates to odds of Evens via the percentages)

Drawn games: 2 (3/1)

Stoke: 2 (3/1)

Goal difference during the period: 11-10

F.A. Cup Quarter Final Match Previews

F.A. Cup Quarter Final Match Previews

The F.A. Cup takes centre stage in english football this weekend with four fascinating Quarter Final ties in prospect & certainly games that look guaranteed to provide loads of drama, excitement & entertainment for us all to enjoy.

All 8 remaining teams now know they are very close to earning their chance for F.A. Cup glory & indeed all 8 are only 1 game away from a Semi Final at Wembley so we are expectign all 8 managers & teams to be fully motivated this weekend in the hope of winning through.

We have had a look all the F.A. Cup ties taking place this weekend & here are our own views & recommendations we feel that are worth consideration:

Birmingham City vs Bolton – (Saturday 12.45pm)

We have a really fascinating cup tie in prospect here with Carling Cup heroes Birmingham City going for another Wembley appearance while Bolton take a break from chasing a european spot in the league to go for the cup & so everything points towards this being a fiercely competitive game that can go either way.

Birmingham City have already achieved cup success & indeed highlighted their strength in these type of situations so they will confident they can do it again & will believe they can get another win with home advantage a big positive for them.

Bolton are going well in the Premier League & come in here in confident mood after beating Aston Villa 3-2 in a cracking match last weekend & we are expecting Bolton to be very positive in this match & go for the win as well.

If this was a Premier League match then the pressure would be on but the fact it is a cup match should open things up more & make the game more entertaining and in that respect the flow of the game should give Bolton the chance to play their positive football & create chances and they look a value call to edge past Birmingham City in this one.
Betting Recommendations:
BOLTON to win 2-1/3-1
Davies/Elmander/Petrov score 1st or anytime
BOLTON H/T & F/T

Manchester United vs Arsenal – (Saturday 5.15pm)

Manchester United vs Arsenal clashes are always massively important matches & huge, high pressure events and this certainly fits into that with both teams absolutely desperate to win against their rivals.

Manchester United & Arsenal are going head to head for the Premier League title so it is fitting that they now clash in this F.A. Cup Quarter Final & we can expect both teams to have a real go at winning this as victory really will be a big statement of intent for the winners & a major blow to the losers.

Manchester United come into this match after the incredible situation of losing their last 2 matches, massive events such as this, against Chelsea & Liverpool and to even consider Manchester United losing 3 huge matches on the bounce is unthinkable & Sir Alex Ferguson will demand that Manchester United go all out to win this.

The performance against Liverpool was absolutely terrible & quite simply Manchester United have to respond with real purpose, quality & determination and they will view this home match against their huge rivals as a massive chance to do that &  also send a message to Arsenal.

Arsenal also come into this match with something to prove after again being completely outclassed in a big match & how they respond to that that high pressure mauling by Barcelona will be the absolute key to this match.

That defeat against Barcelona was clearly a huge blow to everybody at Arsenal & now leaves with them the F.A. Cup & Premier League to go for so clearly the pressure to win something is on again & they have to respond in this match but whether they can is another matter.

Manchester United have been struggling recently but they have been incredible at home this season, they will have the motivation to get back to winning ways & they also face an Arsenal side who will surely be feeling the affects of Barcelona & so we are taking Manchester United to show their quality & strength at home & they look a solid bet to get another massive win against Arsenal.
Betting Recommendations:
MANCHESTER UNITED to win 2-0/2-1
Rooney/Berbatov/Hernandez score 1st or anytime
MANCHESTER UNITED H/T & F/T

Stoke City vs West Ham United – (Sunday 2.00pm)

Two teams currently involved in a relegation battle meet here but this is the cup giving them both a break from the league & so that should mean Stoke City & West Ham will be positive & go all out to win this match.

Of course they both want to win this match & get to Wembley but both clubs major priority is to stay in the Premier League so both teams can afford to be more open & positive in this match so we are expecting a physical, competitive & high intensity match here.

Stoke City were pathetic against West Ham United last weekend, creating very little & offering no real quality as they were easily beaten 3-0 but the fact this is a home match should help them look to turn that around & we certainly expect Tony Pulis’s team to go for this one.

Stoke City are a very strong, powerful side when they play at home at the Britannia Stadium, the Stoke City fans are excellent & Stoke City always make it incredibly difficult for opposing sides & again we are expecting a strong, direct & physical approach from Stoke City here.

West Ham United have really turned their season around in recent weeks & now actually look like an half decent side with their solid 3-0 win against Stoke City certain to see them come into this game with confidence & belief to get the job done again.

West Ham missed out on the Carling Cup Final after defeat against Birmingham City & while Premier League safety is their big, most important target, West Ham United will want to get to Wembley & we are expecting a really positive performance again in this one.

This is a really tough call to make as the fact Stoke City are at home makes a home win appeal, West Ham United are the form side so they appeal too while it is feasible to this end as a competitive scoring draw, deciding which way it will go is hard but we are going to stick with the team in form & go with West Ham United to win again here.
Betting Recommendations:
WEST HAM UNITED to win 2-1/3-1
Cole/Ba/Hitzlsperger score 1st or anytime

Manchester City vs Reading – (Sunday 4.45pm)

The pressure is now firmly on Roberto Mancini & failure is simply not an option in this one as Manchester City face Reading in a game that Man City have to win, are fully expected to win & this really is a test Roberto Mancini’s men have to pass.

The 2-0 defeat by Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League was a big blow to Manchester City’s hopes & confidence and clearly now they have to come out fighting in this one & win their place in the Semi Finals because failure to do so would leave their season in ruins & place Roberto Mancini’s position as manager under even more intense scrutinity than it already is now.

We fully expect Mancini to play an absolute full strength side in this one & we are expecting a powerful, positive response from Man City as they have got to show pride & belief for their fans.

Manchester City obvioulsy have a clear edge over Reading in terms of individual quality but Mancini will know that Reading are certainly a threat & Man City will have to defend well to keep Reading from scoring here as a goal for Reading really would crank up the pressure levels.

For Brian McDermott and his Reading squad this is another fantastic opportunity for them to show their qualities on the big stage & they will certainly go into this game positive, committed & with total belief that they have what it takes to pull off another shock to follow their fantastic win against Everton away in the last round.

This is a fascinating game to call as Manchester City are very strong at home & should have too much quality for Reading here but Reading always go into games positive & fighting for everything so this will not be easy but Manchester City are a stronger, better side & the return of Carlos Tevez can inspire them to a vital win.
Betting Recommendations:
MAN CITY to win 2-0/3-0
Tevez/Silva/Balottelli score 1st or anytime
MAN CITY H/T & F/T
