League 1 & League 2 Match Previews & Predictions for October 8th & 9th

League 1 & League 2 Match Previews & Predictions for October 8th & 9th

The International scene takes centre stage again this weekend meaning no Premier League or Championship action will be taking place but that doesn’t mean domestic football in England comes to a halt entirely with full fixtures lists in League 1 & League 2 there for us all to get stuck into.

There are 24 interesting fixtures taking place in League 1 & League 2 this weekend and here are my match previews & predictions for the main feature matches plus predictions for all other remaining fixtures:

League 1 Feature Match Previews

Charlton vs Tranmere (Saturday 3.00pm) :- Tranmere travel to leaders Charlton with a couple of away wins to their name this season so they have to be respected but Charlton are unbeaten so far at home in the league & I expect them to maintain that by winning this.

3 wins & 2 draws is Charlton’s impressive home record so far with 11 goals scored & only 4 conceded and that’s a record that should prove too much for Tranmere to break with Chris Powell’s side in good, confident winning form in the league & looking very good for promotion as things stand right now.

A home defeat against Brentford in the Johnstone Paint Trophy was not great for Charlton but Chris Powell rested a lot of the key players with this game in mind & that should be a move that pays off with CHARLTON looking well worth a punt to win this & consolidate their strength at the top.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:-  CHARLTON to win
Correct Score options:- CHARLTON to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Wright-Phillips/Jackson/Hayes

Huddersfield Town vs Stevenage (Saturday 3.00pm) :- Lee Clark’s Huddersfield Town let punters down badly last time at home by letting a 2-0 lead slip late on but while Stevenage command respect, I do expect Huddersfield to make it home league win number 4 for the season here.

Lee Clark’s side continue their impressive, incredible unbeaten run into this game & it’s now 35 matches since Huddersfield Town lost in the league & having won 4-0 away in impressive style last weekend I just can’t see how that sequence will not continue here & how it won’t continue with a win.

Stevenage are a capable side on their day & can damage teams with the way they play but I don’t believe there is a better, more confident team that Huddersfield Town in League 1 at present & I am taking Lee Clark’s side to win again here & they are well worth sticking in all the bets & multiples this weekend.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:- HUDDERSFIELD TOWN to win
Correct Score options:- HUDDERSFIELD TOWN to win 3-0/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Rhodes/Novak/Kay

Sheffield Wednesday vs Chesterfield (Saturday 3.00pm) :- Sheffield Wednesday & Chesterfield might well be two clubs with vastly different histories in terms of success & achievement but that won’t count for anything once the whistle goes & this should be a competitive local derby with an edge to it.

Former Sheffield Wednesday hero John Sheridan brings his Chesterfield Town side to take on his old side & he will certainly be highly motivated to make sure Chesterfield are up for this one & will compete hard but whether they will have enough to break Sheffield Wednesday’s 100% home league record is another question altogether.

5 home wins from 5 league games with 13 goals scored & only 4 conceded is a very, very impressive record for Sheffield Wednesday & Gary Megson’s side just look a completely confident & organised team at home, playing every home game with the belief they will win & that’s exactly how they will see this one as well.

Gary Megson will know that Chesterfield will be up for this one & he will respect that but this game should be all about what Sheffield Wednesday do & if they what they’ve done in their previous 5 home games then they should win this & backing them make it 6 home league wins out of 6 looks the way to go in this one.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:- SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY to win
Correct Score options:- Sheffield Wednesday to win 2-1/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Madine/Marshall/McGoldrick

Predictions for remaining League 1 matches:

BOURNEMOUTH to beat Rochdale 2-0/2-1
BURY vs EXETER Draw 1-1/2-2
CARLISLE vs BRENTFORD Draw 1-1/2-2
COLCHESTER to beat Yeovil 2-0/2-1
SCUNTHORPE vs LEYTON ORIENT Draw 1-1/2-2
WYCOMBE vs WALSALL Draw 1-1/2-2
NOTTS COUNTY to beat Hartlepool 2-0/2-1
MK DONS to beat Oldham 2-1/3-1

League 2 Feature Match Previews

Northampton Town vs Crawley (Saturday 12.45pm):- Crawley were strong Ante-post favourites for League 2 & despite a couple of horrendous results they do look the business & travel to Northampton looking to go top of League 2 so should be a cracking match.

Crawley have suffered a couple of nightmare results so far this season including getting absolutely destroyed 6-0 only a few weeks ago but they’ve certainly shown their character & quality by winning several matches since then & their confidence levels will be sky high ahead of this one.

2nd place in the table as things stand now, 3 points for Crawley in this one will take them top & although Northampton will give it a go in front on their own fans, Crawley have more quality & should have too much for Northampton here making the general 11/10 for a Crawley win look very fair value indeed.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:-   CRAWLEY to win
C
orrect Score options:- Crawley to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Tubbs/Barnett/Drury

Swindon vs Hereford (Saturday 3.00pm):- Mid-table Swindon welcome 2nd bottom Hereford for what should be a good footballing contest but one that should result in a home win for Paulo Di Canio’s Swindon.

I say should result in a win for Swindon because they have won 4 of their 5 home league games & just look a really good, confident footballing side at home while Hereford are yet to win away & have only scored twice on their travels so far this season.

The fact Hereford have battled their way to 3 draws away from home takes the edge of Swindon’s appeal slightly but I cannot look beyond a Swindon win here & while they are a price to win, it’s well worth putting Swindon down for a home win & well worth backing them as well.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:-   SWINDON TOWN to win
Correct Score options:- Swindon to win 2-0/3-0
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Connell/Kerrouche/Jervis

Shrewsbury Town vs Barnet – (Saturday 3.00pm) :- 6th place Shrewsbury against 4th bottom Barnet here & in all honesty it should be a case of a comfortable home win here.

I’m not being disrespectful to Barnet at all & they will go into this game to compete for everything as they always do but Shrewsbury Town are a very good side at home while Barnet struggle away and everything looks in place here for Shrewsbury to make it 5 home wins from 6 here.

Shrewsbury’s home record in the league currently stands at 4 wins from 5 with 10 goals scored & only 3 conceded and while the odds-on quote for a Shrewsbury home win is not brilliant, it’s entirely realistic & looks a bet worthy of a punt.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:- SHREWSBURY TOWN to win
Correct Score options:- SHREWSBURY to win 3-0/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Morgan/Wright/Collins

Rotherham United vs Burton (Saturday 3.00pm):- 9th placed Rotherham welcome 11th placed Burton for what should be a cracking, competitive game between sides who matches usually include their fair share of goals & this might well be another.

The 22 games that Rotherham & Burton have played in so far this season have produced 69 goals at an average of more than 3 per game so the prospects for goals look good & it’s definitely a game that’s set up to be really competitive but really open making it one that can go either way.

Calling which way this will go is certainly not easy & I was seriously tempted to go with a scoring draw but I just think home advantage could be just that here for Rotherham & I’m taking Rotherham to make it 4 home league wins from 6 and earn 3 massive points here.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:- ROTHERHAM UNITED to win
Correct Score options:- Rotherham to win 2-1/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:- Evans/Grabban/Revell

Predictions for remaining League 2 fixtures:

ALDERSHOT to beat Macclesfield 2-0/2-1
CHELTENHAM vs DAGENHAM Draw 1-1/2-2
CREWE vs SOUTHEND Draw 1-1/2-2
TORQUAY to beat 2-0/2-1
GILLINGHAM vs PORT VALE Draw 1-1/2-2
MORECAMBE to beat Wimbledon 2-0/2-1
OXFORD vs BRISTOL ROVERS Draw 1-1/2-2
ACCRINGTON to beat Plymouth 2-1/3-1

Well those are my own independent views for this weekend & hopefully you find them interesting & informative in some way.

The idea behind the betting recommendations is to cover the main football betting markets hopefully they help guide you towards successful punts on what should prove to be another truly fascinating & dramatic set of League 1 & League 2 matches.

League 1 & League 2 Weekend Recommendations

League 1 & League 2 Weekend Preview & Recommendations

The Premier League action takes a break this weekend as International football takes centre stage with many vastly important European Championship qualifiers taking place & there is no doubting the majority of the media attention will be focused on the international scene.

That however does not mean that all domestic football action stops & all of those connected to the clubs in League 1 & League 2 will be fully focused on another round of important league matches & hoping their teams get the results they are looking for.

I’ve had a good look at the fixture lists for League 1 & League 2 this weekend and here are what I believe to be the best bets worth consideration at the very least:

Best Bets in League 1:

MK DONS to beat Carlisle - This looks set to be a cracking battle as 6th placed Carlisle welcome League 1 leaders MK Dons & there is no doubting this will be competitive & there should be a few goals thrown in as well. Carlisle are never easy to play & especially at home where they are strong but MK Dons have been very impressive in all competitions this season looking a very positive, confident side & I think at a general 6/4 they are well worth a bet to get another huge away win here.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Result: MK DONS to win
Correct Score options: MK Dons to win 2-1/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime: Macdonald/Chadwick/Ibehre

SHEFFIELD UNITED to beat Bury:- Another good, competitive contest is on the cards here as Danny Wilson’s in form Sheffield United welcome Bury who are unbeaten away to Bramhall Lane – Sheffield United have won both home matches so far & have achieved 4 wins & a draw from their opening 5 league games scoring 9 goals & only conceding 3 so while Bury will give it a real go they suffered the blow of losing their prolific goalscorer Ryan Lowe in midweek & on balance that makes the general 8/11 available for a Sheffield United win look a worthy bet here.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result: SHEFFILED UNITED to win
Correct Score options: Sheffield United to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Player to score anytime: Creswell/Porter/Quinn

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN to beat Oldham - Lee Clark’s Huddersfield Town travel to Oldham with their incredible run of form still in tact, unbeaten in a league match in 2011 & now looking like they have got their confidence & eye for goal back they look worth a bet at a shade of odds against to travel to Oldham & to have too much attacking power for an Oldham side who are organised but lack potency in front of goal.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result: HUDDERSFIELD TOWN to win
Correct Score options: Huddersfield Town to win 2-1/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime: Lee/Novak/Roberts

CHARLTON to beat Sheffield Wednesday:- It is incredible to see these two former mid-table Premier League sides fighting it out in League 1 but that is the reality of the situation & it’s a huge game for both teams who are desperate for promotion. Definitely looks set to be a really competitive game & Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping new signing Ryan Lowe can carry on scoring but Chris Powell seems to have Charlton playing with belief & confidence right now and they look a fair bet to make home advantage pay big dividends by taking 3 huge points here.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Result: CHARLTON to win
Correct Score Options: Charlton to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime: Wright-Phillips/Jackson/Hayes

Remaining Score predictions for League 1 matches:

CHESTERFIELD to beat Leyton Orient 1-0/2-0
HARTLEPOOL to beat Exeter 2-0/2-1
NOTTS COUNTY to beat Bournemouth 2-0/2-1
SCUNTHORPE vs COLCHESTER DRAW 1-1/2-2
STEVENAGE to beat Rochdale 2-0/2-1
TRANMERE to beat Yeovil 2-0/3-0
WALSALL vs BRENTFORD DRAW 1-1/2-2

Best Bets in League 2:

PORT VALE to beat Wimbledon:- Micky Adams will have been keen to get his players focused on this match the very second the whistle blew last weekend to signal the end of their disappointing 3-2 home defeat & he will see this game against Wimbledon as the chance to put those wrongs right here – I do have great respect for Wimbledon & they have shown they can score goals but they also look defensively fragile to me & Port Vale have enough about them to make the general 2/1 available look a solid price & I am taking Micky Adam’s side to bounce back with a win here.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result:- PORT VALE to win
Correct Score options: PORT VALE to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime: Roberts/Loft/Pope

ROTHERHAM to beat Swindon:- I really cannot understand the bookmakers on this one, unbeaten League 2 leaders Rotherham are a near 2/1 to beat a Swindon side who have lost 4 of the 5 league games – it just doesn’t add up & quite simply Rotherham have the confidence, the form & the ability to go to Swindon and beat what looks a very average team lacking organisation & belief, at near 2/1 Rotherham look one of the great value bets of the weekend in my opinion.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result: ROTHERHAM to win
Correct Score options: Rotherham to win 2-1/3-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime: Harrison/Grabban/Holroyd

MORECAMBE to beat Bradford:- Bradford will come into this game with the confidence boost of beating local rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the Cup but even so they face a very tough test in going to 2nd placed Morecambe who have 4 league wins to their name already this season & at a shade of odds on they look well worth a punt to make that 5 league wins from 6 against a Bradford side who don’t travel well.
Betting Recommendations:
Outright Match Result: MORECAMBE to win
Correct Score options: MORECAMBE to win 2-0/2-1
First Goalscorer each way/Players to score anytime:  Jevons/Carlton/Ellison
