Ghana vs Germany – (Group D, Wednesday 7.30pm)

A truly massive game in prospect here as both Ghana & Germany look set to fight it out for the right to win this match & guarantee they progress because they both know a win will guarantee that but a defeat could well mean they get knocked out.

In terms of the group, then Ghana have the vital edge with 1 more point than Germany & that point advantage does mean that a draw for Ghana in this one will be enough to seal qualication but it will be tough to play for a draw as Germany need the win & will come at them so how Ghana approach this could well be the key.

Ghana have not produced anything special yet & both of their goals have come from penalties converted by their main goal threat Gyan so creativity & goals are a problem but they do excel at organisation & team solidity so they will certainly make it a true test for Germany here.

Germany have to go for broke in this one & they know that they probably have to win to assure qualification so we do expect Germany to come out firing in this one.

The 1-0 defeat against Serbia was a hugely disappointing blow for the Germany squad because they expected to win & to be fair to them did most things right to try to win but it just did not happen for them & the blow of losing top scorer Klose through a red card could well be significant in this one.

Really tight game to call this one as both are strong sides with team organisation their key strength so we are expecting a tight, perhaps physically competitive match with both teams likely to cancel each other out & a scoring draw appeals as a bet worth taking here.

Australia vs Serbia – (Group D, Wednesday 7.30pm)

This is a huge match as both Serbia & Australia know that victory will give them a chance to progress, well certain progression in Serbia’s case, but also that defeat will send them home and so we should get two teams trying to win in this one.

Serbia have not really produced anything special as yet & incredibly they produced similar performances to lose to Ghana 1-0 & yet incredibly beat Germany 1-0 without playing too well but they are in a great position &  a win in this one will put them through & could even win them the group.

Serbia are tactically set up to be strong, physical & an organised team unit with the defence of Subotic, Ivanovic & Vidic as strong & powerful as any in the World Cup and we certainly expect them to be as strong again here against Australia.

Assuming Serbia play with their usual solidity, we expect them to have enough quality to hold Australia off & then it will be down to the likes of Krasic, Stankovic, Zigic & Jovanovic to create & score the goals for them.

Australia were terrible in the first game against Germany, looking slow, tactically naive & lacking any real quality but they certainly improved against Ghana & showed a lot more fighting spirit & desire to compete and we expect much the same again here.

The one major problem for Australia though is that they lack any real creativity or goalscoring power & they will certainly find it tough to break down Serbia but we still expect them to have a go as they still have a chance of qualifying.

We are not expecting this to be a football classic but it should be good, competitive action with both Serbia & Australia particularly strong physically & discipline will be key but in the end we like the look of Serbia to just have the edge, win this game & give themselves a great chance of winning the group.

Slovenia vs England – (Group C, Wednesday 3.00pm)

We have great respect for Slovenia & 4 points after 2 games shows they are more than capable but this game really should be all about how England respond to what was a completely shambolic, pathetic & lifeless performance from them last time out against Algeria.

How England respond to the building pressure & totally deserved criticism is the absolute key to this match & to England’s chances of progressing so they must perform & they must win this match.

The performance against Algeria was completely & utterly disgraceful, with every single England player failing to perform or show any character whatsoever & most worryingly star man Wayne Rooney was the worst of the lot, looking totally out of form & lacking any confidence.

The bookies have England as 1/2 or shorter to win this match which is a price purely based on what each set of players can do at their very best but having twice already failing to win when odds long odds on, you have to ask yourselves are England worthy of that status again & surely the answer has to be no they are not.

Poor team selection, dis-organised team play, no confidence, no form, injuries, players out of position, no real positivity are all true statements with regards to England’s displays so far & quite simply we don’t see why England should be backed to win.

The pressure has already taken its toll on the England team with two of the worst performances you will ever see & the pressure for this vital 3rd match is even greater & we think there is great scope & value in taking on England here. a scoring draw appeals as a punt worth taking.

England should beat Slovenia comfortably but they’ve failed twice already & despite us being England fans, the head makes the betting decisions & not the heart and our head says England will fail.

Algeria showed they have the spirit to fight by getting a deserved draw against England & they did suggest they had a degree of quality with moments of real technical skill so they will have a go & need to be respected but they lack any real quality up front & that has to be a concern for them because they could need a couple to get a result here.
