Wolves vs Sunderland – (Sunday 4.00pm)

This season has been a case of job well done for Wolves with safety secured against all expectations & a case of good but could do better for Sunderland making this a tough match to call with confidence.
Wolves have defied the critics & expectations to stay up & Mick McCarthy does deserve praise for doing that & to be fair to Wolves they have showed great spirit & determination throughout the season & in the end that was good enough for them this season.

Wolves are a good, organised team with a strong team spirit & worth ethic and their lack of quality & particularly in terms of creating & scoring goals has not cost them but it is a major weakness & something that has to be changed for next season.

Obviously Mick McCarthy will want Wolves to finish the season by winning at home & we expect Wolves to have a go but their home record is nothing special with a pathetic return of only 4 home wins & only 11 home goals so it’s hard to suggest Sunderland can actually win this so a draw looks the best they can achieve.

Sunderland have done ok under Steve Bruce this season with tremendous home form let down by incredibly poor away form so Steve Bruce has reasons to be happy but also reasons to be frustrated & clearly Sunderland’s away form is the major concern.

2 wins & 4 draws from their previous 17 away games is an incredibly poor return & it’s hard to explain properly because Sunderland have got quality players who should be able to get results home & away.

Extra prize money & of course pride are the only elements on the line in this one so both Wolves & Sunderland should be able to relax and play good, positive football which should make for a good game that can go either way but in our minds Sunderland have more attacking quality with Darren Bent a solid contender to fire the goals & give Sunderland a rare away win.

Betting Recommendations:

First Goalscorer each way/Player to score anytime: Bent/Campbell/Jones

Portsmouth vs Wolves – (Saturday 3.00pm)

Portsmouth are relegated & waiting for the F.A. Cup Final in 2 weeks time while Wolves are safe so this game means absolutely nothing apart from professional pride & that might just help the players relax & produce a game worth watching.
Had this been the relegation battle that it could have been then we would have had this down as a drab, dull & lifeless match in which both teams would be desperate not to lose & end up cancelling each other out but now that could all be different & we expect the players of both sides to have a go.

Portsmouth deserve great credit for showing incredible fighting spirit to bounce back from 2-0 down away at Bolton to earn a 2-2 draw & Wolves once again showed their resilience by earning a 1-1 draw with Blackburn and both teams will be confident they can get something from what should be a really competitive match.

Portsmouth will want to give a show for their fans as it is likely to be their last Premier League home match for sometime while Wolves want to finish on a real high & give their travelling fans something to cheer a good, honest battle looks on the cards here.

The quality of football on show may well be fairly limited but neither Portsmouth or Wolves lack endeavour & commitment and they can both relax & play their game here so we are going to go for a scoring draw which looks a value play worth taking & one that both managers will be happy with.

Fulham vs Wolves – (Saturday 3.00pm)

Wolves need the points more that Fulham in this one but Mick McCarthy’s Wolves will face a solid challenge from Roy Hodgson’s Fulham who are strong at home & tough, competitive game looks certain here.
Flowing, attacking football might well be at a premium in this one as Fulham have bigger, more important games coming up but will not want to lose while Wolves need to keep picking up points wherever they can & avoiding defeat will be their first target here as well.

Fulham have been excellent at home this season with 10 wins & 2 draws from 16 games so opposing them looks risky but backing them to actually win this also looks tricky given how their impending Europa Cup matches are their focus now so we will expect Fulham to be solid & keep it tight here.

Wolves have been excellent in the last month or so, producing hard working, committed performances to earn vital wins & points to push them to almost safety with one more win highly likely to be enough & a point here good enough so we expect another solid Wolves performance here.

It’s probably going to prove best to look elsewhere for quality football & goals as Fulham & Wolves look set for a dour battle & a low scoring, even no scoring draw could well be the value call here & that result will suit both sides perfectly well.

Outright Match Result: DRAW

Wolves vs Stoke City – (Sunday 12.00pm)

Those of you looking to this fixture to provide flowing football, goals & entertainment should definitely looks elsewhere as this clash of Wolves & Stoke City is highly unlikely to provide any of that.
Wolves have only scored 10 league goals at home all season while Stoke City have only scored 9 away goals so far in the Premier League so a hard fought, physically competitive & low scoring battle looks the way to go in this one.

Wolves are giving everything in their fight against relegation & thanks to a run that saw them achieve 8 points in four matches they are now very close to surviving & another win will probably do it.

Tactically there is no secret to Mick McCarthy’s side & their ambition in every match is to compete for the whole 90 minutes & see where that takes them as they showed in drawing against Everton & nearly holding Arsenal although there obvious lack of creativity & goals does make it hard to win matches.

Stoke City are hard to beat wherever they play & Tony Pulis’s side will come go to Wolves looking for a positive result despite knowing they are safe for another year in the Premier League.

Tony Pulis has stated that he wants Stoke City to finish as high as possible & although it looks unlikely they will go any higher than their current position of 10th, Tony Pulis wants results in every match & this will be no different.

We are expecting the usual combination of direct, physical play mixed with an element of quality from Stoke City and Wolves will play their usual competitive style so how the two tactical styles clash here will decide the game & it definitely looks a tight call.

Quality, passing football & goals are likely to be thin on the ground here with both sides looking for a result but not wanting to lose & on balance Wolves & Stoke City look set to cancel each other out & a low scoring or even no scoring draw looks a value bet worth having.
